A man (40) was last in custody because of the explosion in a ghost train at the Annakirmes Düren.
Now he has been released – but some questions are still open.
Düren/Düsseldorf – On August 2, 2022, there was an explosion in the ghost train at the Annakirmes in Düren – apparently caused by a passenger.
After the fact, the police searched for the suspect with a photo in the
ZDF
program "Aktenzeichen XY...unsolved", who finally turned himself in shortly afterwards.
It was a 40-year-old man from Cologne.
Now, after around six weeks in custody, the man is free again, reports 24RHEIN.
The suspect said he didn't want to physically harm anyone.
The court therefore saw no more grounds for detention.
Annakirmes: man (40) free after ghost train explosion – connection with case in Düsseldorf?
The man had previously confessed to the crime at the Annakirmes in Düren, said a spokeswoman for the Aachen public prosecutor.
According to investigations, the man had mixed "commercially available substances" in a plastic bottle.
This created gas, causing the bottle to explode.
The public prosecutor's office is now assuming that the 40-year-old had set off an explosive device in a ghost train in Düsseldorf two weeks earlier.
Nobody was injured in either incident.
Annakirmes Düren: ghost train explosion – what was the motive of the 40-year-old?
Nothing was initially known about the man's motive.
According to the public prosecutor's office, he was released by a judge under certain conditions after a detention review date on Monday, September 12.
It is also assumed that there is a connection with the explosion at the Rheinkirmes in Düsseldorf, but the files of the Düsseldorf colleagues have not yet been evaluated.
The public prosecutor's office in Aachen will therefore probably take over the proceedings from Düsseldorf, according to the spokeswoman.
