The wait is over: the Oktoberfest in Munich is taking place again.

The federal police would like to ensure order with a large presence and are providing some information.

Munich – On September 17, the Oktoberfest will take place again after a long Corona break.

Between beer, music and colored lights, things can get turbulent.

For this reason, the police will be on site with support from all over Germany and other European countries.

The officials will mainly be on duty in the main train station and on the Hackerbrücke as well as the main S-Bahn line to ensure that Wiesn visitors travel safely to and from the festival site.

Oktoberfest 2022: Police with a large presence at the main station and at the Hackerbrücke

Federal police officers from the Munich inspection department have been busy planning operations for the upcoming Wiesn for several weeks, as the federal police announced in a press release.

In the meantime everything is in the bag and we can start.

As every year, a large number of Oktoberfest visitors will use public transport, including Deutsche Bahn, to get to the festival site and back.

Up to 190 federal police officers will be on duty at peak times during the 187th Oktoberfest to ensure security in the railway area.

In order to make the journey to and from the world's largest folk festival as safe as possible for visitors, most of the officers will be deployed at the Wiesn train stations "Hauptbahnhof" and "Hackerbrücke", as well as in the S-Bahn and stops on the main route .

Oktoberfest 2022: Police use video surveillance to investigate crimes

Michael Rupp, head of the Federal Police Inspectorate in Munich, announces “to use technical aids again in addition to the manpower.

In particular, video surveillance in train stations, stops and suburban trains has been providing important services in the investigation of criminal offenses for years".

The body cams, which will again be equipped with numerous federal police officers, serve not only as evidence, for example in the event of resistance, physical attacks and insults against officials, but also much more to deter citizens from misbehaving.

The police warns in particular against pickpockets: "You can protect yourself by locking valuables, carrying them in different inside pockets and close to the body - handbags always remain closed - wallets and mobile phones are never put down".

In general, it makes sense to only carry the valuables that you need.

Federal police about the Wiesn: You shouldn't do this

The federal police also shared further information: It is forbidden - like every year - to take glass bottles or even beer mugs on the S-Bahn!

For security reasons, access to the train is not possible with this!

This does not apply to purchased and well-packaged mugs.

Aluminum-coated balloons, especially in the tunnel stations of the main route, can bring the entire S-Bahn operation to a standstill if they come into contact with the overhead line.

It is therefore forbidden to take it with you!

In the event of damage, there is even a risk of criminal charges and - depending on the behavior - possibly also compensation.

As at the Wiesn, the same applies to the S-Bahn or the train: "No means no!".

Since the improvement in the protection of sexual self-determination (§ 184i StGB) in 2016, sexually touching body parts, for example, as well as touching the décolleté or buttocks have been considered criminal offenses and are prosecuted ex officio without reporting the person concerned.
