The Israeli embassy pressed: the awarding of the "Peace Prize" to an anti-Israel candidate in Germany was rejected Israel today

The United Nations Association in Germany planned to give an award to Navi Pillai, who supports the anti-Semitic movement BDS • The mayor of Berlin announced that he would boycott the event and prevent it from happening • The ceremony, which was supposed to take place today, was postponed for the purpose of "investigating the allegations"

The Israeli Embassy in Germany is conducting a campaign to prevent the awarding of a "Peace Prize" by the German UN Association to the former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillai, known for her extreme anti-Israeli positions and her support for the anti-Semitic boycott movement BDS.

In light of the harsh criticism of Pillay's extreme positions, the mayor of Berlin, Franziska Jipay, from the ruling Social Democratic Party, announced that she would not participate in the prize distribution ceremony, which was supposed to take place today in Berlin, and her refusal to hold the ceremony as planned at City Hall.

For its part, the German UN Association announced a postponement to an unknown date "for the examination of the allegations" against Pillay.

Pillay, a South African jurist of Indian origin, chaired the UN Human Rights Council between 2008 and 2014.

As part of its role, the anti-Israel council established two "committees of inquiry" into the military polls conducted by the IDF in the Gaza Strip, including the "Goldstone Committee" to investigate Operation "Cast Lead" headed by the South African Jewish jurist Richard Golston.

Goldstone admitted after the publication of the investigative committee's report that it was a one-sided document that resulted from the UN Council's anti-Israel stance.

Pillai also chaired the commission of inquiry set up last year by the UN Human Rights Council to examine the events of Operation "Guardian of the Walls", a commission one of whose members called for Israel's membership in the UN to be revoked and made anti-Semitic statements.

In the video distributed by the Israeli Embassy in Germany, Pillai's anti-Israeli and anti-Semitic positions are shown: her support for the BDS movement, her signature on petitions calling for the boycott of Israel and her calling Israel an "apartheid state".

"Pillai supported the holding of the follow-up conference to the Durban conference - the ugliest display of anti-Semitism in the history of the UN," the video said, "a member of the investigative committee chaired by her questioned Israel's right to membership in the UN and spoke of a Jewish lobby that controls social media.

Pillai protected him.'

The Israeli Embassy demands that the German UN Association reveal who decided to award Pillay the Peace Prize on its behalf and who approved the awarding of the prize.

"There should be no tolerance for anti-Semitism, let alone awards for it," the video emphasizes.
