Hours after Pyongyang strongly condemned South Korea's joint exercises with the United States near the Korean Peninsula and said the move constituted a "severe blow to the security of the region", the regime in Pyongyang launched two missiles in the direction of Japan.
According to the news agency of the neighboring country to the south, "Yonhap", at least one ballistic missile was fired towards the east early Sunday morning (local time) and it passed over the East Sea and Japan, eventually landing outside the country's economic waters.
In Japan they reported that it was actually two missiles that were fired at the same time.
Along with these two missiles, North Korea has launched in the last two weeks almost 10 missiles in the general direction of Japan.
The aforementioned launches came in response to the latest American moves, including the arrival of Vice President Kamala Harris in the region soon.
As part of the joint US exercises with South Korea, it even returned the aircraft carrier "Ronald Reagan" to the region, which as mentioned drew severe condemnation from Pyongyang, which called the move "extremely worrying". The aircraft carrier began the joint exercises on Friday, just days after North Korea launched a missile over Japan, and as mentioned on Saturday North Korea launched at least one more missile.
North Korea sees the joint exercises with South Korea as a direct threat to it, partly because they are seen as a simulation for a possible invasion through the unofficial border that crosses the two countries since the end of the fighting in 1953.
