The Pan American Health Organization announced today that Haiti has confirmed the death of 18 people from cholera and the infection of 32 others, as of October 9.
Reuters quoted the Director of the Pan American Health Organization, Dr. Karissav Eiten, as saying in a press conference: "More than 260 suspected cases of the disease are still waiting to be confirmed in the area around Port-au-Prince."
She pointed out that about a quarter of these cases are children between the ages of one to four years.
The Haitian Ministry of Health indicated that the deadly disease returned to the country earlier this month.
