For decades she was the author of the ZDF women's magazine Mona Lisa: Susann von Lojewski.

As part of the Hanns-Seidel-Foundation’s series of events “Strong Women, Strong Words”, the 52-year-old spoke in the Döpfner-Haus about male gangs in the media landscape, women in management positions, motherhood and her own childhood.

Freising – You almost had the feeling of sitting in the living room of the ZDF television journalist, Susann von Lojewski answered the questions of moderator Daniela Arnu (BR) so relaxed on Wednesday evening.

Of course, "it does something to you when a format like Mona Lisa, which was your professional home, is suddenly discontinued, as happened in July," said von Lojewski: "It's a turning point."

She has been there since 1996 when production took place in the ZDF studios in Unterföhring and later at Ostbahnhof.

And so the sympathetic media woman was right there where she defines part of her “being a woman”: in the family.

The Munich editorial office had to move, and that involved a lot of organization in everyday family life.

When she told her friends that she was leaving the two 16-year-old twins “alone” in Munich for the week – her workplace is now in Stuttgart – she initially saw question marks, says von Lojewski.

She herself grew up in a family with traditional roles: her father, Günther von Lojewski, former editor-in-chief of the BR Report and later director of the Sender Freie Berlin (SFB), her mother "a passionate housewife", who raised four children has drawn.

In "Rebellion against the family model" she always aspired to a leadership position.

"I wanted to be financially independent," the television journalist recalled.

Management positions in the media landscape are still mostly occupied by men, which became clear in the course of the event.

The audience, which apart from one “quota man” was all female, discussed why that was the case.

Women tended to have to do "every job perfectly and more perfectly," said one listener.

In such situations, men pushed for an additional job so that they would be relieved.

“They have more assertiveness there,” said the woman.

Due to the overload there is trouble in private life.

And many women asked themselves the question: "Is my career worth it to me?" Even though more women are now appearing as presenters on television, it is mostly men in the editorial offices who decide which contribution is to be broadcast as the "opener" as the first item , informed von Lojewski.

"We must not tire of addressing women-specific issues."
