The well-known Russian journalist Tikhon Dzjadko, editor-in-chief of the Kremlin-critical exile broadcaster "TV Rain", was declared a "foreign agent" by the Russian Ministry of Justice, as the Russian portal "RBK" reports, citing the Ministry of Justice.
Also on the list are Dmitry Nizovtsev, an employee of the anti-corruption foundation "FBK", which is banned in Russia, and Alexei Navalny's spokesperson, Kira Yarmysh.
The Justice Department's website notes that the listed individuals have been added to the "foreign agent" list for "conducting political activities."
The sources of the alleged foreign funding are said to be Ukraine in the case of Dmytro Nizovtsev and Tikhon Dzjadko, and Ukraine and the United States in the case of Kira Yarmysh.
Russian law requires journalists branded "foreign agents" to report to the Justice Ministry on all income and expenses.
Articles, letters, social media posts—everything must be labeled with an indication that it was written and distributed by foreign media or a “foreign agent.”
