At least 11 people died on Saturday and 15 others were injured in a shootout at a Russian military compound in the Belgorod region bordering Ukraine, the Russian Defense Ministry said, calling the incident "attack".

In a statement, quoted by Russian news agencies, the ministry said that "two citizens" from the former USSR opened fire with automatic weapons during an exercise.

“The two terrorists were killed during a return fire,” adds the ministry.

"During the conduct of shooting training with people who had volunteered to take part in the special military operation (in Ukraine), the terrorists opened fire with automatic weapons on the members of the unit “, continues the ministry.

The “terrorists” were “shot down”

“In the shooting, 11 people were fatally injured.

Fifteen others received injuries of varying severity and were taken to health facilities where they are receiving the necessary care.

According to the ministry, “the two terrorists were killed during a return fire”.

On September 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a "partial" military mobilization in Russia to send soldiers to fight in Ukraine, after setbacks by the Russian army on the front.

In early October, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that more than 200,000 people had been mobilized in Russia since this announcement.
