The name of the plastic artist Abdullah al-Sayed was associated with the statue of Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi, one of the most famous monuments in the city of Damascus. Creators never leave.
On the occasion of the passage of forty days since the departure of the great creator, the National Center for Visual Arts in Damascus held a memorial ceremony and an honorary symposium in honor of the memory of the sculptor Mr. Human, the thinker, poet, critic and philosopher.
In a speech delivered in his place by Wadih Atfa, the late nephew of the late, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Center for the Arts, the plastic artist Ghiath Al-Akhras, referred to the strong visual culture and calm insight that distinguished the late creator from other critics with his deep vision and elegance in his writings and art.
Then, during the symposium, a documentary film about the life of the late doctor and testimonies from his wife, the plastic artist, Duha Al-Qudsi, and his daughter, Maya Al-Sayed, prepared and screenplay by Elham Sultan, were shown.
In the honoring symposium, the plastic artist, Asmaa Fayoumi, spoke about his distinction as a philosophical artist who says the word of truth frankly, while Dr. Ihsan Aintabi pointed to the need to document the sculptures and works of the late writer and the details of his sculptural works.
As for the plastic artist, Lina Deeb, who was one of his students, she stressed the distinction of Al-Sayed in the great monumental works and that he is a diligent artist who works hard and is in harmony with the sculpture to strengthen the sculptural mass and enjoys contemplating it and penetrates to its depth in a musical arrangement away from the traditional achievement in addition to his distinction in the art of the icon, while the sculptor Hossam Jund explained The late El-Sayed was distinguished by the artistic technique found in his sculptural works.
The late man was born in Masyaf in 1941. He graduated from the Sculpture Department at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Damascus University in 1971, and obtained a Diploma of Advanced Studies in Aesthetics in 1977 in Paris, and a certificate from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1980.
With his studies of fine arts, he studied at the Department of Philosophy and Social Studies at the Faculty of Arts at Damascus University in 1965 and worked as a professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts, head of the sculpture department there, and professor of aesthetics and criticism at the faculty’s graduate studies.
He carried out many memorials and statues in many Syrian cities, the most famous of which is the Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi monument in Damascus 1992 and the Martyrs' Monument in Daraa in 1990. The monument to Noah's Ark was executed in Dallas, USA in 2001 and participated in many group exhibitions and local and international forums.
