Left faction leader Dietmar Bartsch sees a further escalation of the war in Eastern Europe in view of the Russian attacks with Iranian drones in Ukraine and the western arms deliveries to Kyiv.
"We are already in a global war," said Bartsch on Tuesday in Berlin and demanded: "Before winter, concerted action is needed for a ceasefire and for negotiations."
At the latest after the congressional elections in the USA at the beginning of November there will be a chance for this.
"And I wish that the window for peace in Ukraine would be opened," added the left-wing politician.
Nothing should be dictated to Ukraine.
And the key to a solution lies in Moscow.
"But the federal government should by no means stop taking the initiative here," said Bartsch.
Russia is increasingly using combat drones in attacks on Ukrainian cities.
The US – like Ukraine – accuses Iran of supplying such drones to Russia.
Iran has denied arms sales to Russia.
Demands for negotiations with Russia, citing the threats emanating from the country, have been raised time and again by left-wing politicians.
At the end of September, Gregor Gysi had called on rrb Inforadio for "an armistice to come as soon as possible".
One should not forget that Russia is a nuclear world power.
