Male passerby on Ferry Street suspected of abandoning footbridge and crossing the road, hit by taxi and knocked unconscious driver arrested

Paramedics rushed to rescue the victim and then sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.

It is understood that the taxi involved was carrying passengers and was heading for Kowloon along the West Kowloon Corridor. When it came to the scene of Ferry Street, a male pedestrian suddenly jumped off the road on the right and jumped off the lane. As seen from the scene, there is a footbridge across the back-and-forth lanes of Ferry Street right at the unexpected location; and there are 10 lanes of traffic from the back and forth of Ferry Street.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident, and it cannot be ruled out that someone abandoned the footbridge to cause the accident.

A shoe believed to belong to the injured person and a severed belt were left at the scene.

Police said the male victim, surnamed Huang, was 55 years old and had injuries to his head, hands and feet; the taxi driver, surnamed Chen, was 75 years old.

According to reports, at 2:47 a.m., a taxi was travelling south along Ferry Street and was suspected of hitting the injured male when it reached the junction of Ferry Street and Dundas Street.

Rescuers arrived at the scene and sent the injured to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in a coma.

The driver, surnamed Chen, was arrested on suspicion of "dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm" and is being detained for investigation.
