Biotechnologies towards safe food.. Conference and exhibition at the Faculty of Agriculture, Damascus University

Damascus, SANA- The activities of the second conference on food technology, organized by the General Authority for Biotechnology, kicked off today

The activities of the second conference on food technology, organized by the General Authority for Biotechnology in cooperation with the Faculty of Agriculture at Damascus University, and many companies and economic events, with the participation of specialized researchers from inside and outside Syria, under the title “Biotechnologies towards safe food” were launched today.

Over three days, participants will review lectures and scientific research in the field of food biotechnologies, fermentation technologies, food quality and safety, food technology and human nutrition, food legislation and regulatory and supervisory frameworks in this field.

Dr. Nizar Issa, Director General of the Public Authority for Biotechnology, stated, in a speech during the opening of the conference, that the Authority is carrying out many distinguished researches in various fields of biotechnology with the aim of developing and investing them in solving the most important problems we face in our daily lives.

Dr. Abdul Latif Hanano, Assistant Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, pointed out the importance of using vital technologies in developing the food industries and investing the outcomes of the conference in order to establish good cooperation between government and private institutions to advance the food reality, and enhance access to a healthy and safe product.

Dr. Yassin Al-Ali, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Raayati Agricultural Investment Company, noted the importance of the strategic partnership with the Public Authority for Biotechnology, with the aim of benefiting from all available capabilities and research and working to implement them.

The conference is accompanied by a food exhibition, in which food companies and associations specialized in agricultural products participate, as well as food projects for students from agricultural colleges.

Abdul Rahman Sirwan, who specializes in the production of gluten-free foods, said: We participate in the exhibition in order to introduce students to our products, which patients with celiac disease “malabsorption” need, pointing out that the company has two complete sections for food and quality that are used in the production process.

Luay Al-Hazeem, Marketing Manager at Delta Food Industries, stated that the aim of participating in the exhibition is to communicate with students, and to inform them about how to convert agricultural material into industrial.

Quality Director of Foodco for Food Industries, Mohamed Abdel Basset, said: We introduce the students to the food safety management system in the company, as well as the research and development department and how to employ scientific competencies to benefit from their experiences in production processes.

Dr. Bassam Nader, head of the Central Association of Beekeeping of the General Union of Peasants, indicated that the exhibition is an opportunity to exchange experiences and display the association's natural products that are free of pollutants and chemicals.

From the University of Aleppo, the student, Rana Katbi, indicated that she is participating in her graduation project to produce coconut milk, which is used in some food industries.
