The fatalities are a teenager and an adult, said the police chief of the US city in the state of Missouri, Michael Sack, on Monday (October 24).

According to the information, the attacker was also killed in a shootout with incoming police officers, increasing the death toll to at least three.

According to Sacks, the attacker was "about 20 years old".

The police were called to the high school shortly after 9 a.m. (local time, 3 p.m., CEST) on Monday morning because of the shots.

It's the next horrific act at a US school.

Deadly gun attacks at educational institutions are common in the United States.

And this Monday, a youth pleaded guilty to killing four classmates at his Michigan school last year.

Repeated deaths from guns in US schools - Joe Biden calls for stricter gun laws

Because of the excessive violence with guns, US President Joe Biden has repeatedly called for stricter gun laws in the United States, but Republicans mostly block such political goals.

Most recently, Biden had insisted on a ban on assault rifles owned by private individuals.

Assault rifles were banned in the United States from 1994 to 2004.

Then the ban expired.

For example, Biden has spoken of a “plague of gun violence” in the past.

Now there are once more deaths at a US school to mourn.
