Opinion Complacency and lack of zeal: the decisive blow to the right-wing bloc may come from the ultra-Orthodox Israel today

2022-10-25T05:38:28.201Z

As election day approaches, the fear that the Torah Judaism party will lose a mandate increases • The reasons: the lack of overwhelming leadership, indifference on the streets, and shaky relations between Gafni and Goldknopf

While in the secular cities the pictures of the politicians are seen on billboards, bridges and balconies - in the ultra-Orthodox cities the situation is "cleaner".

On the balconies where signs were hung, one can get confused and think that there is a municipal battle between the green signs and the red and black ones.

One party, two colors, and this is only a small part of the problems of the Torah Judaism party.

In the political system, full attention is focused on the voting rates in the Arab sector, in the Likud party they invest all their power in the party's strongholds, but the surprise, to the detriment of Netanyahu's bloc, may come precisely from the ultra-Orthodox side.

A problematic substrate.

Even though from a numerical point of view the people of Torah Judaism can reach nine or even ten mandates, this time there is a serious concern that the party will not only not gain, but even lose a mandate.

The big trouble for the right-wing bloc is not the loss of ultra-Orthodox votes in the direction of MK Itamar Ben Gabir, but the complacency and lack of enthusiasm on the ultra-Orthodox street, which may leave potential voters at home.

Angry voices

There are several reasons for the lack of enthusiasm, the first and most important of which is the lack of sweeping leadership.

Last March, Rabbi Haim Kanievsky passed away, a prominent leader to whom many flocked. In the previous election campaigns, Rabbi Kanievsky went to ultra-orthodox and secular cities, participated in conferences and hit the ultra-Orthodox street. His successor, Rabbi Gershon Edelstein, is of Torah stature, but does not have the aura around him , the lightning, the stories of miracles and the buzz that surrounded Rabbi Kanievsky.

Too conservative.

And if that's not enough, angry voices are heard on the ultra-Orthodox street about another election without the introduction of young MKs, the relationship between MK Moshe Gafni from the Torah Flag Party and Yitzhak Goldknopf from Agudat Israel is shaky.

The same Goldknopf also succeeded in infuriating the modern ultra-orthodox, who go to work, due to texts that are too conservative for their taste.

The complacency on ultra-Orthodox street is unimaginable.

It was supposed to be the easiest campaign of the ultra-Orthodox to date.

They stayed out of the government, Prime Minister Yair Lapid occupied the Prime Ministership, the great demon for them, Minister Avigdor Lieberman, sat on the helm of the Treasury and launched programs that hurt the ultra-Orthodox, such as the increase in the price of disposable dishes and sugary drinks.

On top of that, Matan Kahana fights for kosher, and Minister Rav Michaeli prays three times for her core studies and for operating public transportation on Shabbat.

These are the materials from which the most effective and best Gewald is made.

But not only is there no increase in the number of mandates, there is lethargy and even fear of losing a particularly critical mandate that may surprise and decide the elections.
