In a special session, the Neubiberg municipal council cleared the way for a previously quite controversial change in the school district for its two elementary schools in Neubiberg and Unterbiberg.

Neubiberg

- This means that more children from more residential streets west of the railway line will now go to the Unterbiberg elementary school and have a longer way to school of around 2.5 kilometers.

Background: According to parent representatives and school management, the Neubiberg school on Rathausplatz is bursting at the seams, while at the same time the one in Unterbiberg, despite many guest students from the Munich border belt, remains below its possible three-stream class per class.

This means that the school in its current form and especially the on-site afternoon care that is so important for many working parents are at risk.

School district for elementary school in Unterbiberg expanded by eight streets

The state education authority had recently emphatically demanded a change in the current layout.

After extensive deliberations, the municipal council finally voted against the two votes of Kilian Körner and Jürgen Leinweber (Greens) for the new construct.

The gymnasium on the right is just basic - and if the weather isn't good, physical education classes must also take place in the classrooms.

In detail, it is planned to expand the school district for the elementary school in Unterbiberg by eight streets: in addition to the Äußere Hauptstraße, the Burgermeister-Schneider-Weg, the Ilm-, Isar-, Lech- and Mangfallstraße, there is also the Pfarrer-Sickinger-Weg and Professor-Messerschmitt-Strasse and are separated from the Neubiberg area.

From the point of view of the municipality, the aim is to distribute “a significantly more balanced number of pupils to both schools”.

Inventory protection applies.

No current students will have to move, as Mayor Thomas Pardeller (CSU) assured.

Siblings should also be able to go to the same school.

petition started

Nevertheless, it had been heavily criticized beforehand.

Angry citizens had tried to influence the decision with a petition last week.

The initiator, Johannes Schiesser, called for "alternatives" to the proposed resolution, a precisely fixed "duration" for the proposed adjustment and a discussion of reasonableness.

The focus was particularly on safety and costs for the future way to school.

Schiesser criticized that the parents had not been informed early on about the planned change in the district.

The mayor promised the parents a timely information event.

The new regulation is to apply until the completion of around 100 residential units on the property on Äußere Hauptstraße, probably in 2026/27, and until the development of other areas north of Zwergerstraße, which cannot yet be planned.

When planning the requirements at the time for the Unterbiberg elementary school, which opened in 2015, other building figures were assumed.

Applause for Headmistress

"Our wonderful school is about survival," summarized Unterbiberg's headmistress Christiane Bussert.

Without a change in district, the under-occupancy at her school would at least lead to a loss of all-day classes - a corresponding replacement would then have to be created at the Neubiberg school, which was already overused.

After all, parents will have a legal right to all-day care from 2026.

Numerous parents from Unterbiberg also applauded Bussert's remarks.

sports in the classroom

Vanessa Weihbrecht from the parents' council in Neubiberg described the current needs there.

“There are already no more free spaces.

While Unterbiberg has a double gymnasium, there is only one in Neubiberg – some physical education classes take place in the classroom”.

She also did not share the criticism of some parents about long distances in the future.

"It's just not always possible to find accommodation at the nearest elementary school." The redistribution is all the more important when Ukrainian children are soon to be distributed among the classes.

After all, these would not be assigned to the district, the mayor assured.

"According to the promise of District Administrator Christoph Göbel, these should be distributed to schools in the communities in the region".

Pardeller and head of the public order office Rita Burkhard took the concerns of the parents about the way to school seriously.

If bus line 211 is not enough, the municipality will establish its own connection between Neubiberg and the Unterbiberg elementary school.
