Dozens of people have suffered cardiac arrest during Halloween celebrations in the South Korean capital Seoul.

As the South Korean news agency Yonhap reported, emergency workers had to carry out resuscitation measures on at least 50 people.

The incident happened in Itaewon, a nightlife district in the South Korean capital.

President Yoon Suk-yeol ordered more emergency personnel to be sent to the region and hospital beds to be prepared.

Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, who is currently visiting Europe, is said to have announced his immediate return, according to Yonhap.

The exact background of the accident was initially unclear.

The AP news agency, citing the local fire department, reports that a total of around 100 people were injured when they were squeezed in a narrow street.
