First Deputy Speaker of the Russian State Duma Ivan Melnikov stressed that the conditions for strengthening the base of relations between Russia and China are now the most favorable.
Today, during a musical evening dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the Russian-Chinese Friendship Association, Melnikov was quoted by TASS news agency as saying: "Today there are all conditions to help the new generation of guides of people's diplomacy to strengthen the social base of Russian-Chinese relations."
He added, "Not everything has always been smooth and smooth in the relations between the two countries, and we are fortunate to be working at a time when these relations have reached an unprecedented high level."
The First Deputy Speaker of the State Duma stated that since 2001 the Treaty of Good-Neighbourliness, Friendship and Cooperation between Russia and China has entered into force, which allowed to expand its activities, noting that despite the difficulties, the participants of the Friendship Society continued their activities actively and persistently.
Melnikov pointed out that the association helped preserve the traditional good feelings of the citizens of Russia and China towards each other, and contributed to the normalization of relations between the two countries, and then raised them to the level of comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction that was officially recognized in both Russia and China.
