The bell rings every ten minutes: Middle school students gain valuable experience at job speed dating in the district office.

Many companies present themselves.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen – At the age of 15, it is not at all easy to confidently approach a strange adult.

So the 64 students needed a little push on Thursday in the district office.

"Be daring," said the head of the school authority, Petra Burkhardt, at the Job Speed Dating, which the School-Business Working Group has organized for the eighth time.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen: Job speed dating for middle school students in the district office

The offer is aimed primarily at secondary schools in the district.

This time the young adults from Königsdorf, Bad Tölz, Geretsried and Gaißach secured the coveted places.

In advance, they were able to register for ten-minute job interviews with the 24 participating employers from the region.

"Around 150 talks were agreed," says Burkhardt.

When the school director rang the bell to start the first round of speed dating, most of the students were still a little shy in the meeting room.

The stands where the companies present themselves were distributed around them.

Plenty of training options

After graduation, the ninth and tenth graders have a lot of choices.

There are the nursing professions, for example, at the Asklepios city clinic in Bad Tölz or in homes such as Haus Elisabeth in Geretsried or the Josefistift in Bad Tölz.

An apprenticeship at Holzer Tiefbau in Degerndorf, the laundry rental company Greif in Wolfratshausen, Hawe-Hydraulik in Sachsenkam, Tölzer Kälte-Klimatechnik or Rudolf Chemie in Geretsried are also options.

The next generation can learn automotive mechatronics or office management at the Autohaus BaderMainzl in Loisachstadt.

A number shows that it is becoming increasingly difficult for companies to find suitable applicants: "We usually have 30, 40 trainees at all our locations, currently there are 20," reported HR Manager Stephanie Thaler.

The corona pandemic made it difficult to introduce yourself as a training company.

"This is a good opportunity for us to present ourselves." One who jumped at the opportunity was Adem, who is in the ninth grade at South School.

He could imagine becoming a car mechatronics engineer.

"Definitely something technical," explained the student.

Companies offer internships

Job Speed Dating is a valuable measure for young people to find out “which job suits me”, said Rüdiger Rieß, school business expert and teacher at the Geretsried middle school – “without saying right away that I’m not interested “.

They could also practice for job interviews and introduce themselves to companies that might have sorted out their application documents.

"We keep getting feedback from companies that they have been able to win students for internships or even apprenticeships," says Rieß.

This was confirmed by Christoph Willibald from the Schlegldorf construction company Kilian Willibald.

"We always left quite satisfied." It is more difficult to find young people, especially for manual and special professions.

Among other things, you can become a road or pipeline builder with the Willibalds.

Processing mechanic is an extensive training.

"It takes a lot to get someone excited," said Willibald.

But it's fun."

With every conversation, the inhibition threshold decreases

Other companies have few on the screen, although they presumably have the product in their hands every day.

"We make packaging for all sectors," explained the manager of Bayerische Wellpappen in Fleck, Benedikt Kreisl.

He has five apprenticeships a year to offer, as a packaging technologist, but also as an office or industrial clerk.

There is not always a lack of candidates.

"The challenge is to find the right applicant," said Alexander Esser, training advisor at the Bundeswehr.

Across Germany, it offers 50 apprenticeships and 40 courses.

"We have 450 career opportunities."

The more the bell rang in the District Office, the livelier it became in the meeting room.

"It's great how it lowers the inhibition threshold," praised Rebecca Geisler, business developer of the city of Geretsried, about the format.

Anna and Franzi from the ninth grade in Königsdorf went home satisfied.

You could find out what the jobs are like.

And "I'm allowed to do an internship at BayWa," reported Anna enthusiastically.
