Elias Puente Segura, migrant from Venezuela:

'When I was in the river they shot me once - and then again and again.

The cowards mistreat us because we are unarmed, poor, and working people.

Like everyone else, we have rights.

And they welcome us that way.”

During their demonstration, people held a huge USA flag over their heads.

Inscription: »We migrants built America«.

A clear protest against the United States immigration policy introduced in October.

After that, up to 24,000 people from Venezuela will be allowed to enter the United States.

Yaneiri Hernandez, migrant from Venezuela

'It shouldn't be like that.

We are not animals, we are humans.

We want to go to the US to work, not to do bad things.

We spent several days here and slept like animals.

The Mexicans are the ones who provided us with food, clothes, shoes and blankets.«

According to the United Nations, more than seven million people have fled Venezuela in recent years to escape the economic and social collapse of the once-prosperous oil nation.
