Biden proposes ambitious plan at climate summit 6:06

(CNN) --

As 40 world leaders gather at a virtual climate summit convened by US President Joe Biden, Pope Francis called on the world to "take care of biodiversity, take care of nature," in a message from Earth Day video.

Speaking in Spanish, Francisco spoke about the covid-19 pandemic and the impact it had on nature and climate change when the world “stopped”.

Both "global catastrophes" -- climate change and covid-19 -- "show that we no longer have time to waste."

“This shows us that global nature needs our lives on the planet.

It involved us all, although in many different and unmistakable ways.

And in this way, it teaches us even more about what we need to do to create a fair, equitable and environmentally safe planet.

In short, the covid pandemic has taught us this interdependence, this sharing of the planet together,” the pope said.
