Philosophically, the notion of identity is as contradictory as it is uncertain.
Contradictory, because, signifying at the same time the identical, the same, and the different, the specific, it is inevitable that any search for identity carries within it a tension mixing the desire for the same (identification) and the desire to be. self (individualization).
