Two police officers were stabbed on Thursday evening near the Gare du Nord in Brussels.
One of the two agents succumbed to his injuries, said the Brussels public prosecutor's office, according to information from the daily
Le Soir
.
The assailant, neutralized by a patrol, would have shouted
"Allah Akbar".
According to a judicial source joined by AFP, there is
“a suspicion”
of terrorist motivation, but the investigators must still gather elements to support it.
The alleged attacker was injured and is hospitalized.
A terrorist attack?
The two police officers were attacked around 7:15 p.m. in Schaerbeek.
“The two police officers then called for reinforcements.
A policeman from another patrol used his firearm to neutralize the attacker.
The two injured inspectors and the attacker were taken to hospital.
The Brussels public prosecutor's office has been informed of the facts, ”
said the Brussels-North police zone, quoted by Le Soir.
"A perimeter has been established
," said the prosecution.
However, the motives of the author are not known at this time.
Several Belgian media reported that he shouted
"Allah Akbar".
The prosecution, however, did not confirm this information.
