The Saarland SPD state government is committed to maintaining and creating jobs.

Now there is further support: a representative for structural change.

Saarbrücken - The former State Secretary from the Berlin Senate Chancellery, Frank Nagele (SPD), will become the state government's representative for structural change in the Saarland on December 1st.

This was announced by Prime Minister Anke Rehlinger (SPD) and Economics Minister Jürgen Barke (SPD) on Thursday evening in Saarbrücken and presented him and his new task to journalists in the State Chancellery.

The 58-year-old is to act as a coordinator within the state government, bringing together departments and supporting Saarland's new structural change strategy.

"It's about improving collaboration and keeping things moving at speed," Rehlinger said.

"We've never had to keep as many balls in the air as we are now.

And nobody should fall off just because you don’t tune something well.”

From 2012 to 2017, the administrative scientist, who holds a doctorate, was State Secretary in the Ministry of Economics of Schleswig-Holstein and then in the Ministry of Economics in Lower Saxony before moving to Berlin.

Most recently, he was Managing Director of UTB Projektmanagement GmbH since March.

Nagele said he was now the third in the "Rehlinger structural change team" and met it "with quite a bit of respect".

It is a "magnificent task" that will be given to him along the way.

Even during his time as State Secretary in Kiel, he was part of a team that dealt with structural change, including the shipyard crisis.

"I know how difficult it is to secure jobs," he said.

The topic of change and accompanying change fascinates him.

In Berlin, too, it was later about "getting change, transformation, change on its feet in such a way that there are no breaks, that it happens with the people, with the actors".

He described the fact that the Saarland state government was a one-man government as a "stroke of luck": "That means there are no underlying or contrary party interests."

The new position in the State Chancellery was not officially advertised: Rehlinger and Barke reported that they had known and appreciated Nagele when he was State Secretary.

According to the Prime Minister, winning him over to Saarland is a good offer for the business location and a real enrichment in terms of the quality of the work results.
