An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale struck Guatemala late yesterday evening, without immediate reports of material or human damage.
Reuters quoted the US Geological Survey as saying that the epicenter of the tremor occurred less than 11 kilometers from the town of Masagua, near the southern coast of Guatemala.
Authorities in neighboring El Salvador, where people also felt the tremor, did not issue tsunami warnings.
