According to the police, members of the task force of the Enforcement and Control Team of the Kowloon East Regional Traffic Department carried out an operation to combat "dangerous driving" in the area at 11:00 pm yesterday (November 16).
During the operation, officers found a motorcycle speeding along the Kwun Tong Bypass near the Kwun Tong Pier northbound. During the period, it overtook several times and crossed the double white lines, ignoring the safety of other road users, so they stopped and checked.
After investigation, a 26-year-old male driver surnamed Mei was arrested on suspicion of "dangerous driving".
The male driver has been released on bail pending further investigation and must report to the police in mid-December.
Police reiterated that dangerous driving behavior seriously endangers the safety of other road users.
Offenders, upon conviction, face a maximum penalty of three years' imprisonment and a fine of HK$25,000.
If it is the first conviction, it can be suspended for at least 6 months, and if it is convicted again, it can be suspended for at least two years. In addition, it is mandatory to take a driving improvement course and score 10 points for driving violations.
The Police will continue to step up law enforcement to crack down on serious traffic violations on the roads, so as to ensure the smooth flow of roads and the safety of road users.
