The organizers of the World Cup in Qatar are preparing for this Friday the announcement that the sale of alcohol in stadiums will be prohibited, a World Cup official told CNN.

The announcement is expected just two days before the World Cup begins.

The Muslim country is considered very conservative and strictly regulates the sale and consumption of alcohol.

In September, Qatar said it would allow ticket holders to buy alcoholic beer at World Cup soccer matches three hours before kick-off and one hour after the final whistle, but not during the game.
