Trump and the porn star: the hush money investigation may be renewed Israel today

2022-11-21T20:30:42.369Z

The "New York Times": The new Manhattan district attorney intends to return to the investigation, which was abandoned during Trump's term due to more serious suspicions • At the center of the affair: $130,000 that Trump's lawyer transferred to Stormy Daniels in 2016 so that she would not find out what happened between the twelve years earlier

Stormi Daniels is back in the headlines?

The new Manhattan district attorney has decided to reopen a criminal investigation against former President Donald Trump, and the relationship he allegedly had with the porn star.

According to the New York Times, prosecutor Alvin L. Bragg ordered his people to focus on the main issue of the investigation that was conducted two years ago, what the investigation was about in the first place: the silence fee for Daniels, who claimed to have had a sexual encounter with Trump in 2006.

The prosecutor's office previously examined the payment of $130,000 to the actress and then turned to examining Trump's conduct in business in general.

However, Bragg and some of his deputies signaled to some officials that they are "optimistic about the possibility of building a case against Trump."

However, it is unclear whether the prosecutor's office will seek to file charges against Trump, who about a week ago announced his intention to run for president.

Reminder: In the midst of the 2016 presidential campaign, Trump's lawyer, Michael Cohen, paid the money to buy Daniels' silence.

The federal prosecutors, who came to the conclusion that the payment constituted a prohibited election contribution, issued an affidavit in which he claimed that he acted on instructions from Trump.

Trump, then a presidential candidate, and his girlfriend paid Cohen $130,000, raising questions about involvement in the payment.

From there, the investigation branched into questions about Trump's business management.

Now the prosecution in Manhattan wants to return to an issue that is considered a dead end.

Trump has denied any contact with Daniels.

The attorney for the Trump company, Michael van der Wein, said in response to the report: "I really don't believe they will return to the investigation. It would be an error in judgment. The millions of dollars in tax money spent on the countless investigations were one big waste of time."

The reexamination of the hush money issue comes a few days after the US Attorney General, Merrick Garland, announced the appointment of a special prosecutor for Trump affairs. The reason: preventing a conflict of interest in the two federal investigations that are being conducted against the president, because Garland is a Biden appointee - who may run against Trump in 2024.
