The Minister of Industry, Ziyad Sabbagh, discussed today with Jean Roux, an expert in preliminary survey and assessment in the Agri-Food Industries Revitalization Program funded by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization “UNIDO”, the practical steps that will be taken through surveying and analyzing the current reality of food processing in Syria.
The meeting, which took place in the Ministry's building today, included discussing the development of an integrated plan that includes the direction to support the manufacturing process through training centers, educational and technical bodies, and the necessary equipment for companies and laboratories.
Minister Sabbagh stressed the importance and vitality of the agricultural industrialization project in Syria, which is a priority for the ministry, and said: “We aspire to build a joint strategy with long-term goals with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization to develop the industrial sector in Syria.”
In turn, Jean Roux indicated that, according to the data and information that will be collected during the survey process, a work methodology that can be quickly applied will be developed through which the project that the organization will adopt in Syria, which will focus on agro-food processing, will be launched.
The national coordinator of the program in Syria, Ali Ismail, indicated that a work program has been developed that includes meetings with those concerned in the agricultural and food industries sector from government agencies and the private business sector, and conducting field visits to factories and companies from both sectors, in addition to visiting the Standards and Metrology Authority, the Industrial Testing and Research Center, and the Training Centers Complex. Ministry of Industry vocational.
In this context, joint working sessions were held today in the ministry between the organization's team, the General Establishment for Food Industries and representatives of the food industries sector in the Damascus Chamber of Industry and its countryside.
