A man and a woman were wounded by bullets on Saturday evening on a ring road in Avignon, the prosecution told AFP on Sunday.
The two people were injured in their vehicle, on the Charles de Gaulle ring road, around 11 p.m. on Saturday evening, sources close to the investigation told AFP, confirming initial information from the regional daily
La Provence
.
Both victims were taken to hospital, emergency services said.
The man, who would be between 20 and 30 years old, was hit by "
seven or eight
" bullets.
A time between life and death, his vital prognosis was no longer engaged on Sunday evening, according to the prosecution.
He is known to the police for minor misdeeds.
The woman, in her twenties, received a projectile in the shoulder but her vital prognosis is not engaged, explained the same source.
The incident occurred when the victim's car was stopped at a red light.
Another vehicle arrived alongside them and one of the occupants got out and fired a Kalashnikov.
Twenty-seven casings were found at the scene.
Avignon has seen several homicides linked to drug trafficking in recent months.
According to a source close to the investigation, the place is not associated with drug sales outlets and it is "

" to determine the reasons for this gunshot attack.

The modus operandi may be reminiscent of the settling of accounts
" usual in drug trafficking, according to the prosecution, but the reasons for the shootings are not yet precisely known.
The judicial police have been seized.
