Vatican City was covered in mourning following the death of former Pope Benedict XVI today (Saturday).

The leader of the Roman Catholic Church passed away at the age of 94 after a long battle with cancer.

"It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Pope Benedict XVI at the Mater Ecclesia monastery in Vatican City," according to the official announcement.

He was born in southern Germany in 1927 and in 2005 became the first German to be elected as Pope after about 500 years in which no German ruled at the head of the Catholic Church.

Almost 8 years later, on February 11, 2013, without any prior preparation of about one billion and 300 million believers, he announced his decision to retire from his position for health reasons.

Since 1294, no Pope has left the Holy See while alive and of his own free will.

Benedict XVI was the first pope to visit a synagogue in Germany, condemned anti-Semitism and Holocaust denial, visited the German extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau, and in 2010 became the third pope to visit Israel.

The death of a television broadcasting legend

Meanwhile, the beloved host Barbara Walters, one of the most famous women on American television, the first woman to present prime-time news and one of the most prominent interviewers on television, died on Friday at the age of 93. Behind Walters are fifty years of television broadcasting.

She created the popular women's talk show "The View" that aired on ABC in 1997 and died at her home in New York.

Robert Iger, CEO of Walt Disney stated that: "Barbara was a true legend, a pioneer not only for women in journalism but for journalism itself," wrote Iger. Walters interviewed a number of world leaders, including Fidel Castro of Cuba, Margaret Thatcher of Britain, Libyan ruler Muammar Gaddafi, Iraqi ruler Saddam Hussein, Russian presidents Boris Yeltsin and Vladimir Putin, and every US president and first lady since Richard and Pat Nixon.

Does the power "choose" a side?

Estimated to supply weapons to Kiev

The US is considering transferring M-2 "Bradley" APCs to the Ukrainian army, the American news agency "Bloomberg" reported.

Although it is not an official decision, the possibility that the Ukrainian army, which is conducting a stubborn war against the Russian army that invaded Ukraine more than ten months ago, is one that can significantly tilt the scale in favor of Kyiv.

A senior Pentagon official confirmed the holding of the discussions.

The US has more than 2,000 units of Bradley APCs in dry storage and the US Army does not use or need them.

That is why the amount of units that the Americans can transfer within a few months to Kyiv is large and so is the amount of spare parts available for the APCs.

The UN is taking a drastic step - in The Hague they will provide a report on the occupation of the territories

The UN General Assembly last night asked the International Court of Justice in The Hague to give an opinion on the legal consequences of what it calls "Israel's occupation of the Palestinian territories". The International Court of Justice in The Hague, also known as the World Court, is the highest court of the United Nations dealing with in conflicts between countries.

Its rulings are binding, even though the International Court of Justice has no authority to enforce them.

87 countries voted in favor of the request.

Israel, the United States and 24 other countries voted against, 53 abstained.

Former Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid - who was replaced on Thursday by Benjamin Netanyahu - last month urged world leaders to oppose the move, saying that bringing the issue to court "will play into the hands of the extremists".

The best for Saudi Arabia

The Arab media reported on Friday that Cristiano Ronaldo, who left the Manchester United team in harsh tones even before the World Cup in Qatar, signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Al Nasser in Saudi Arabia.

After two hours, the reports did become official when the Saudi team released the official signing photo.

One of the best footballers in the world, will earn no less than 200 million euros per season, not including a signing bonus of almost 100 million euros.

Apparently, this is the highest contract in the history of football.

Ronaldo is not alone.

Al Nasser has already added a number of players with experience at the highest levels in Europe, such as Vincent Abubakar (ex Porto), David Ospina (former Arsenal goalkeeper) and Luis Gustavo (ex Bayern Munich).

According to "The Brand", the next acquisition player that Al Nasser wants to sign is none other than Sergio Ramos.

Tragedy in the Negev: A toddler was run over to death

A 3-year-old boy was run over today and killed as a result of a car run over him in the village of Hora in the Bedouin diaspora.

He was brought to a local clinic for medical treatment, where he was pronounced dead.

Traffic accident examiners from the Negev region arrived at the scene, opened an investigation and began collecting findings.

According to the data of the organization "Betarem", since the beginning of the year 9 children have been killed in a run-over in the vicinity of the vehicle, of which 7 are from the Bedouin society.

Orly Silvinger, the organization's CEO, said: "Just before we end the year 2022, another child was killed.

The report on child mortality from injuries that we published this week clearly showed that children in Bedouin society are at the highest risk of dying in an accident compared to all Israeli children. The report shows a direct link between socioeconomic status and the risk of death in child accidents."
