The incoming Minister of Education, Yoav Kish, has no educational background whatsoever.
He has never taught a class, managed a school, served in supervisory and training positions, or worked in academia.
Unlike other ministers of education who came from a foreign background to the world of education and chose a director general with an educational record, Kish chose his friend in arms, Brigadier General Assaf Tselal, for the position of director general of the Ministry of Education.
This is an unwise choice to the point of being ridiculous, since the role of the Director General of the Ministry of Education is not only to manage the most important system in the State of Israel, but also to outline policy.
Since his appointment, Kish has been spewing baseless statements into the air.
He explains that he intends to return humane studies to the schools, and probably did not know that these studies were not canceled at all.
It is important for him to show his difference from the outgoing minister, but he does so as a careless student who did not prepare his homework.
I strongly opposed the reform of Minister Shasha Biton.
In my opinion, the matriculation exams in the humanities should be reinstated, but the empty slogan "Jewish heritage" should not be waved here.
Literature, history, the Bible and citizenship are subjects that are in real danger. If there is no external matriculation exam, and the students submit papers (which will be written by artificial intelligence), instead of teaching humane subjects, the schools will only teach realistic subjects, to show that their students have a matriculation average High.
Shasha Beaton's "baccalaureate reform" "forgot" several important factors: the introduction of artificial intelligence makes the written work irrelevant.
If anything, it would be good to make the graduations in the humanities a mix of a written exam and an oral exam.
Also, the "interdisciplinary work" that the students are supposed to write ignores the simple fact - a teacher who teaches an entire class, cannot make time for personal tutorials on writing process work.

The real ticking time bomb is the terrible shortage of teachers, kindergarten teachers and school principals.
The Minister of Education and a responsible CEO will deal with this problem first of all. Already now students in some schools come for half days due to a lack of teachers. Already now anyone with a pulse is accepted for the teaching job.
In appointing Tselal, Kish made the mistake of thinking that there is also a mandatory conscription law in the teaching.
Many classes do not have a teacher this year.
Some teachers teach two classes (if their colleague went on maternity leave and has no substitute).
Third graders are only learning to read and write this year due to the consequences of the corona virus.
The salary issue, supposedly resolved, is far from over.
The special education teachers were left behind, and their eyes have not yet seen the fulfillment of the salary promises.
If these resign, the economy will experience a collapse.
The Israeli education system is dying.
To take off, it does not need pilots, but skilled educators.
In the 1990s, we already experienced the "generals in education" phenomenon, in which senior reserve officers were parachuted in to run schools.
To a large extent, this phenomenon contributed to the severe administrative crisis experienced by the schools and the entire system.
But Kish doesn't know that.
He is, as mentioned, a careless student.
