Flights slowly resumed in the United States after a technical failure in the air navigation system.
Reuters quoted the US Federal Aviation Administration as saying: “Normal air traffic is gradually resuming across the United States following a malfunction occurred overnight in the air mission notification system that provides safety information to flight crews as the travel ban has been lifted, and we continue to investigate the cause of the initial problem.” ".
US President Joe Biden ordered the Department of Transportation to investigate the malfunction and said: “Its cause is unknown at this time.” In response to a question whether a cyberattack was behind the malfunction, Biden told reporters at the White House, “We do not know.”
According to the website of the American technology company “Flight Aware”, which provides flight tracking data, more than 5,400 flights were delayed and 900 flights were canceled, while officials stated that it would take hours for flights to return to normal.
For his part, an official in the US Cyber Command said: If it is proven that the malfunction in the aviation system is a cyber attack, then it will be considered an act of war.
For its part, the White House announced that there is no evidence of a cyberattack at this stage regarding the computer malfunction that prompted the US authorities to suspend all domestic flights departing today.
White House spokeswoman Karen Jean-Pierre wrote in a tweet: There is no evidence of a cyberattack at this point, but Biden asked the Department of Transportation to conduct a full investigation into the reasons.
