The freezing rain falling on Jerusalem this morning will not prevent Rabbi Yehuda Levi from going to pray on the esplanade of the Mosques.
For him, as for the faithful who, for seven years, have accompanied him twice a day, every day, with the exception of Fridays and Saturdays, it is not a question of going to the "esplanade of the Mosques", place in principle strictly reserved for the exercise of Muslim worship, but to make an
"ascent
" to the "Temple Mount".
The sanctuary of the Dome of the Rock and the al-Aqsa mosque, holy places of Islam, are located where the two temples of Jerusalem stood: the one built by Solomon, then that of Herod, destroyed in 70 by the legions Romans.
The famous golden dome shelters the place where fundamental events recounted in the Bible would have taken place: the creation of Adam, the fratricidal combat of Abel and Cain, the binding of Isaac by Abraham.
