Anthem to indifference: the only way to deal with the news Israel today

2023-01-12T20:44:50.622Z

Like a soldier in a tank, I listen and don't react • What will help me get angry? Nothing will change anyway

Gunners and armorers, certainly the veterans, know the situation where you can hear the commander inside the helmet, but you can't speak.

This is a situation intended for the common soldier, that driver who steers the tank and shells are fired at him, missiles fly, and he - all he has to do is hum the "sea of rice".

An old friend told me that whenever he gets into a fight and the tones rise, he automatically goes into "indifferent mode", listening and not responding, like a mute in a tank - only completely by choice.

I too have been practicing an "indifferent state" for a long time, but not only in a fight situation but every hour.

I try to ignore the bumps in the road, read the news with a closed expression, try not to let anything move or upset me.

In any case, I can't change anything here, so what will help me to get angry?

The simple logic says that it is a waste of energy, it is better to be indifferent.

Last week, someone in a fit of rage shouted at me, "Have you seen who they want to appoint there as CEO of the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology?" Really wow, I thought to myself. I didn't know the famous outgoing CEO, and I have no interest in what the new one will do or not do .

Did he really think that this marginal information would shake me out of my indifference?

Leave CEO, did you see who the new minister will be in charge of innovation and science, including technology? Ofir Akunis, the one who is usually given the bag that is forgotten in the closet, in the back, next to the umbrella. This office did not interest me even when I was not indifferent, so now, when I Declared indifferent?

There was someone who laughed "Did you read what Yanon Magal tweeted? He was 'loading dozens of women on a truck with a pitchfork'. A piece of chauvinist misogyny!".

"Hmmm... in those very words?", I faked dry astonishment.

I was more interested in where you get a pitchfork these days, and what those who own it really do with it.

Let them fight against each other, let them load, let them tweet, let them shout and scream - it doesn't affect me.

I stay inside the house, in my intimate apartment, which is closed under lock and key against homophobes, racists, corrupt people and just narrow-minded people.

I buy food in the supermarket, drink coffee in the square, that's all that interests me.

Sometimes, in a momentary stumble, I remember that even in the previous regime it was not this fun.

It wasn't safer on the streets and it wasn't cheaper in the deli.

It was bad and it's bad, so I'd rather gather inside myself and let the world explode.

Indifference makes life easier, really.

Here's a short exercise to prove it: take a deep breath, enter the "passive-progressive" mode and answer the questions: "You don't care if people drink sugary drinks and get diabetes?"

Definately not;

"Won't you go crazy when you see disposable dishes floating on the Sea of Galilee?"

No, because we realized there was no point.

It is more effective to feed the pigeons on the avenue.

When beggars come and ask for money to sit, I no longer feel sorry but indifferently explain that I am indifferent.

Here, indifference also saved me a few shekels, from the advantages of economic indifference, a sub-branch of general indifference.

After all, there were shocking investigations, corruptions on the table, fateful headlines in the newspapers and hair-raising revelations.

Well?

The next day the sun was shining and the birds were chirping.

Today I am already reciting the response of the corrupt even before it was revealed: "I received the report, I will study it, the faults will be corrected as soon as possible."

I don't intend to resign, it's not my way.

I will continue to lead this office confidently for years to come."

Because nothing will change.

Donald Trump said at the time with absolute justice: "Even if I shot someone on Fifth Avenue, they would still elect me."

So why should I take it to heart?

Better to be passive.

One thing I am ready to admit: apathy does not come from pleasure and does not brighten life - it comes from material fatigue, weariness and despair.

I just gave up after realizing the hard way that it was a waste of nerves and tears.

It may be the solution, and only if there is a sleepy and apathetic majority here - in the end something will move here.

Think about all those who take you out of your peace every day - if they realize that their self-interested magic touch, which caused chaos and mistrust, is no longer working - maybe then they will rethink their course and try a different way?

worth trying.

They will continue to steal and corrupt, shout and scream, carry out revolutionary reforms, glorify martyrs, go up to the Temple Mount in the middle of Ramadan - and we will sit in front of them and watch like a cow chewing grass in a meadow.

Anyway, we just haven't tried that yet.

We will be indifferent for the sake of the next generation.

were we wrong

We will fix it!
