The "Muezzin Law" is coming to Saudi Arabia: in the kingdom, they decided to impose restrictions on the calls to prayer in mosques, as reported in the "Saudi Gazette" newspaper at the end of the week.
According to the report in the Kingdom, the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Abd al-Latif bin Abd al-Aziz al-Sheikh, instructed the mosques to limit the number of loudspeakers to only four in each mosque.
These are external loudspeakers through which the muezzin calls the general public to come to prayer at the mosque five times a day.
Further to this, Minister A-Sheikh instructed to remove all the excess loudspeakers and store them for later use or transfer them to mosques that do not have enough loudspeakers.
The move seems to express the desire of the authorities in the kingdom to lower the volume in some mosques in light of the public nuisance.
This is in addition to the inequality between mosques in rich and poor communities.
Also, this is another step in a broader course designed to make Saudi Arabia more inviting for the western tourist.
Of course, this includes the opening of movie theaters and the removal of restrictions on women.
