In recent months, the United States has experienced a nursing crisis.
Factors such as the covid pandemic and a low entry of new students into the profession have caused many hospitals to find themselves with a shortage to cover their shifts.
Elmhurst Memorial Medical Center on the outskirts of Chicago, Illionis has decided to hire two robots to help on its rounds.
The two mechanics, both named Moxi, are employed to deliver medicine and supplies at the facility and have a digital display and ID to allow them to open doors implanted in their robotic arm.
According to statistics, they have made about 1,800 deliveries each month, saving human staff more than two million steps taken and 3,100 hours of work.
At the moment the robots do not directly interact with patients, although the creators of this initiative hope that their implementation will become more common in the coming years.
Both assistants work 24-hour shifts, with a short break to recharge their batteries before resuming their duties.
