On the two-year anniversary of the passing of the late Sheldon Adelson - a philanthropist, a lover of Israel, one of the greatest donors to the Jewish people and the State of Israel and who, with his wife Dr. Miriam Adelson, founded "Israel Today" - a memorial service was held yesterday at the Mount of Olives cemetery in Jerusalem.
The occasion was attended by his widow, Dr. Miriam Adelson, the chairman of the Jewish Agency General (ret.) Doron Almog, the former chief rabbi of Israel and the chairman of the Yad Vashem council Rabbi Israel Meir Lau, the former chairman of the Jewish Agency Natan Sharansky, founder Reichman University Prof. Uriel Reichman and many family members, friends and colleagues.
The moving memorial service was conducted by the chief cantor of the IDF Lt. Col. Shay Abramson, who also offered the prayer "God is full of mercy".
Next to him, the singer Yonatan Razel performed Yossi Gisfan's song "When the heart cries" and Naomi Shemer's song "On all these".
Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau read a chapter of Psalms for the uplifting of Sheldon's soul, and then the children said Kaddish for Adam and Matan.
Among the speakers at the memorial service were his widow, Dr. Miriam Adelson, sons Adam and Matan Adelson, daughters Yasmin Lukach and Sion Dumont and her husband Patrick. The children paid their respects near the grave site, and spoke of their father's contribution to so many people in the world, of the meaning of the time that has passed since he passed away and about the growing longing two years after his passing.
