Folding against Jordan? Netanyahu's promise to Saudi Arabia is much more worrying Israel today

2023-01-26T21:39:15.314Z

The Prime Minister wants us to think that the next agreement is beyond the door • Lucky that the Saudis make it clear that the payment is a Palestinian state • His partners will have to be on guard, because we learned from Jordan and Egypt what "peace" is worth on paper

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently stated that the main goal of his foreign policy is to sign a peace agreement with Saudi Arabia, in order to "end the Arab-Israeli conflict."

Accordingly, his environment spreads the message of peace with Riyadh as if it were beyond the door.

At the same time, we were informed of Netanyahu's trip, on Tuesday, to the capital of Jordan, where he met King Abdullah and made various promises to him.

One commitment was published - to "maintain the status quo", even though it is the Jordanians who are undermining us in our capital city, deliberately sabotaging the status quo.

What price Netanyahu paid for the hostile Jordanian king to accept him into the palace remains to be seen, but we know very well what the price of maximizing hummus wiping in the Saudi capital is, and it is too heavy to bear.

The Saudi Foreign Minister, Faisal bin Farrakhan, pierced the Saudi price this week with absolute clarity.

In press interviews, he emphasized that "first of all, the Palestinian issue must be resolved, and a full and permanent agreement that will lead to the establishment of a Palestinian state in a respectable manner must be the first priority."

Saudi Arabia leaves no room for doubt - before a public paper with Jerusalem, one must, first of all, establish a Palestinian state.

Whoever thinks that the unreasonable harshness demonstrated this week by Likud Defense Minister Yoav Galant in the face of the childish settlement protests in Samaria is a coincidence, think again.

Anyone who believes that Netanyahu and Galant are not trying to renege on the coalition commitments towards Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben Gvir in the field of settlements is dreaming.

This week the plan for carrying out a revolution in the settlements was published in "Israel Hayom".

In general, this includes the approval of thousands of housing units, a change in world order in the Supreme Planning Council and what was called an axis that bypasses the Ministry of Defense.

Well, these are commitments already given in the coalition agreement to Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben Gvir.

The same goes for the transfer of civil powers in the Jewish State to the Minister of Religious Zionism. However, in the meantime we are witnessing the street battles between Galant and Smotrich on this very matter.

And anyone who does not recognize here the historical pattern of non-compliance with commitments on Netanyahu's part, has really learned nothing.

A pattern that is directly connected to the maxims of peace with Saudi Arabia and promises to the Jordanian king.

The settlement revolution will only take place if Netanyahu's hand is twisted and he will have no choice.

And let's not forget, beyond folding in front of Jordan, which just a week ago sent its ambassador to cause a provocation on the Temple Mount, what the Prime Minister promises to the Saudis is much more worrying.

Vacations in Mecca can wait

After all, during most of his years of leadership, Netanyahu strove for the establishment of a Palestinian state, which the Saudis demand as a condition for bringing our relations out of the closet.

Therefore, it is time for the Likud leadership to make a switch in their heads and announce that Israel is no longer paying anything for agreements with Arab countries, certainly not in homeland territories and security components.

After all, Jerusalem already maintains a friendly, even intimate relationship with Riyadh.

A kind of strategic partnership, which includes elements of security, economy and trade.

So who needs the paper to declare apparent peace, and may also miss the current good relations between the countries.

Please note the difference between the "peace" with Jordan and the current relations with Saudi Arabia.

The Jordanians were given vast territories, we established a dangerous foothold on the Temple Mount, we supply expensive Kinneret water - and all for the sake of constant enmity and incitement on the part of the public and the royal court.

Without dealing with the disaster of Oslo's Palestinian peace charm, the Egyptian lesson is the same.

We gave them all of Sinai and oil reserves, and in return we get less than what Saudi Arabia provides us, without a formal agreement.

We will see you go for a walk in the pyramids.

That is why those vacationing in Mecca and Madinah can wait until the coming of the Messiah.

Netanyahu's coalition partners must close the door to any payment the Saudis demand, in exchange for a meaningless piece of paper titled "Peace Agreement".

The satire dictatorship

For those who watch the satire shows in Israel, the world is simple and clear.

There is one side that is boring because it is just perfect, while the other side - God forbid.

Although he again won the majority of the votes in the ballot, he is all laughs: he is crazy, ridiculous, dangerous, and you can make endless laughs at him.

The perfect side is of course the left, which includes, by the way, the Arabs, the progressives all over the world, and even the Palestinian terrorist organizations.

They are nothing to laugh at, because there is no material to sharpen your nails with.

But the Israeli right - what entertainment. The leftists were fed up with "The Jews are Coming", the subversives were fed up with "Eretz Fahadrah" and they even left the aging progressives with "This Is It" - even Erez Tal and Israel Ketoreza, who are free from any ideology, know how to laugh only in one direction.

Even with them, in "This is not a Friday studio", there are no jokes about the left, neither today nor in the days of the previous perfect government.

As we know, only Tali Gottlieb, Karai, Bibi, Smotrich and Ben Gvir are ridiculous and scary.

Therefore, also at Erez Tal, Ktorza and Nussbaum came down on Ben Gvir and his demand for equal enforcement in the demonstrations, and of course they mowed down all the crazy people who want to shut us all up with their legal coup.

The humor and satire only work in one direction, because there has never been a crazy repression of demonstrations, not even when they brutally used anti-semitism against the disengagement and Oslo demonstrators. There was also no room for laughter when Eric Sharon deceived the voters and Likud officials; when Shaul Mofaz promised that he would not leave the house in Likud immediately Abandoned for the future; when Ehud Barak invented fictitious associations to win the elections; when Rabin and Peres claimed that Asar Arafat is not an arch-terrorist but a partner for peace. Not to mention the current era.

There is not enough imagination to make jokes about Merav Michaeli, the woman who messed up the Hebrew language and culture;

There is not enough insistence on the man with the big mouth who recognizes processes, it is not clear how he came to be deputy chief of staff; you cannot go down on the previous minister of internal security, who was not aware of what was coming out of his mouth; and Gantz and Lapid - at most you can laugh at them as pathetic rags, there is no Juicy stories from the versions of Yair Lapid's military service, not to mention Gantz's desperate courtships after Abu Mazen, which only ended in terror.

And by the way, where is Ahmed Tibi, the doctor who advises the father of terror Arafat, and where are all his wonderful friends, in our satire programs.

True, it's time for real satire on the right as well.

It's hard to see how this grows on Channel 14 and Israeli airwaves that lack a sense of humor, but this claim does not excuse a real satirist from ceasing to be a political politrock.

There is really no place to attribute creative excess and intelligence to the Israeli entertainment stars, they are also part of the motley herd of those who snicker according to society's codes.

And yet, only when we start seeing jokes and sharp criticism on both sides, will we know that we really have a democracy.

were we wrong
