Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced today his country's intention to veto any possible EU sanctions on the Russian nuclear industry, stressing that these sanctions will cause great harm to Europe and Hungary.

“The Hungarian government still supports a review of the European Union’s sanctions policy, based on the opinion of its citizens, which was reflected during the national consultations that took place in the months of October and December,” the Tass news agency quoted Orban as saying to the local radio station Kossuth. His country's government was attended by 1.4 million people, 97 percent of whom opposed the sanctions against Russia.

Orban pointed out that the results of the national consultations will be of great benefit in discussions with the leadership of the European Union and other countries, reiterating his country's call for the Union to reconsider its sanctions policy against Russia.

Orban said that energy prices will drop within a few minutes if sanctions against Russia are lifted, and the general level of prices and inflation will drop by half immediately.

Russian President Vladimir Putin had confirmed earlier that Western sanctions dealt a serious blow to the entire global economy, while the main goal of the West is the deterioration of the lives of millions of people, explaining that Russia is capable of solving all the problems that the West creates for it.
