Le Parisien tested the new Bluetooth headphones from the Japanese brand JVC. A good value for money but with a sound all the same comprehensible

The Japanese electronics brand JVC has just released a new Bluetooth headset, the HA-S36W, for less than 45€.

It succeeds the similar HA-S35BT from 2019. We tested these on-ear headphones for several weeks.

We liked

Its very long autonomy.

While its big brother was around 17 hours of battery life, the HA-S36W is establishing itself in the entry-level Bluetooth headset market with a very long battery life.

Its 35 hours of batteries are the strong point of this device.

It is no longer necessary to recharge your headphones every three to seven days.

After two weeks of use at around two to three hours a day, its battery was still not half drained.

A real treat for those who are still wondering if they will be able to listen to music on their way home from work or while traveling long distance.

A rather practical hands-free kit.

With its 158g, this new Japanese product has been designed for travel or for full days of meetings.

It has the multipoint connection, which allows two devices to be hooked up simultaneously.

The manufacturer has also decided to integrate a microphone button to activate or deactivate as well as another to take a call or hang up.

Quite handy when you don't have access to the phone or a computer at hand.

Despite a slight latency, the voice assistant can be used from the headset.

We liked less

audio sound.

While it's good overall, it won't suit purists.

The highs and lows, in particular, are muffled.

The manufacturer still wanted to solve this problem by programming three modes: "clear" for classical music, "normal" for a mixture of voice and instruments, and "bass" for rap, etc... In this last mode, the bass is predominant over the rest of the sound.

In addition, impossible to connect the device on the JVC application.

It could have allowed users to change the treble and bass more noticeably depending on the type of listening.

A correct level of comfort but not suitable for long listening sessions

.

With its leather pads and adjustable headband, the helmet is not designed for long sessions.

The pads are felt on the ears after a few hours.

The headband is not padded unlike other devices in the same price range.

The entire helmet remains plastic and lacks robustness.

However, it manages to fold flat but fits with difficulty in a small handbag.

Verdict

The JVC HA-S36W is a good Bluetooth headset for everyday use, with a very honest price-performance ratio.

We can however regret an average sound quality.

Its very long autonomy and its ease of use still outweigh these few black points raised.
