Last week, the authorities in India tried to rebrand Valentine's Day, which falls on February 14, as a "cow hug" day. But four days later the government abandoned the idea following ridicule from the residents on social networks. "The cow is the basis of Indian culture"

The authorities in India planned to change the purpose of Valentine's Day, the day of love, which falls every year on February 14.

Following the perception in the country, according to which a cow is a sacred animal, in India they hoped to change Valentine's Day to a "cow hug" day - in the hope that the change would help citizens achieve "emotional wealth".

However, the move was not successful and was quickly abandoned after jokes about the attempt began to appear across social networks.

In a statement published by the Council for Animal Welfare in India last week, it was stated that the cow is "the basis of Indian culture, it gives to all and it is the one that takes care of the wealth of the human race, following its character."

The council's statement also claims that the custom of hugging cows is ancient and has existed for many years, but disappeared due to the influence of Western culture.

For four days the networks mocked the move, which received government support until the Indian authorities gave up on the idea.

In several cases, residents have published drawings in which cows are seen running away from humans who try to hug them.

In other cases, they published videos in which cows attack people.

On one of the television channels in the country, a presenter tried to hug some cows, but it seems that they did not like the attempt.

"Consent is an important thing," the presenter joked.
