Today, Bahraini Minister of Information Ramzan bin Abdullah Al-Nuaimi met more than forty delegates from Arab and international media at the Diplomat Hotel in Manama, in preparation for covering the royal ceremony for handing over the “Isa Award for Service to Humanity,” which is scheduled to be held tomorrow, Tuesday.
Minister Al Nuaimi indicated that the award is an expression of the Kingdom of Bahrain's support for the values of giving and humanity, and in honor of human value, pointing out that the winner of the award in its fifth session, the Nepalese ophthalmologist Dr. Volunteer work.
One hundred and forty-five candidates from different countries of the world applied for the award in its fifth session 2021-2022.
It is noteworthy that Dr. Rowett invented a new method for treating cataracts, and he was also able to develop a new lens implanted inside the eyeball that can be produced at a low cost, helping to perform surgery to treat cataracts in less than five minutes, during which he removes cataracts without stitches from the eye. Through small incisions, and replacing it with a low-cost artificial lens, he was able to treat more than 120,000 blind patients without taking any money from his poor patients.
In another context, Minister Al-Nuaimi pointed to the Kingdom's role in the field of relief and humanitarian work, especially towards the aftermath of the earthquake that struck Syria and Turkey, and to the humanitarian campaigns in the Kingdom, revealing that the donations during the campaign launched by Bahraini TV for the earthquake victims amounted to 3.6 million dollars.
