But with costs rising and quotas falling, that could soon change.
Berlin – For years, the ARD has had excellent ratings with “Rote Rosen” (since 2006) and “Sturm der Liebe” (since 2005) and with the two consistently successful heartache telenovelas has played a decisive role in determining the afternoon program on TV.
But while the series were once an integral part of the German television world, a rethink is now beginning.
That could lead to the inevitable end of both formats.
"Red Roses" and "Storm of Love" before the end?

The formula for success behind productions like "Rote Rosen" or "Storm of Love" is very simple: It's about love, betrayal, moments of well-being and strokes of fate - a concept that has long attracted millions of viewers to the television sets hours before prime time.
But the great heydays are coming to an end, because both programs recently recorded a decline in ratings, which is observed with concern in ARD circles.

The contracts for 2023 and 2024 were only recently extended, but after that it could finally be over: While the quotas are falling, the costs have been rising since the COVID 19 pandemic.
According to ARD information, a episode costs around 100,000 euros and thus a whopping 2000 euros per minute of broadcasting -
expenses that one would like to cover in the future, as a station insider recently revealed
to Bild am Sonntag
: This claims that those responsible have been planning for a while to sell "Red Roses" and "Storm of Love".

ARD is looking for a replacement for "Red Roses" and "Storm of Love" – will a new talk show follow soon?
This project has failed so far mainly because no suitable replacement program has been found.
According to the insider, ARD would like a talk show that should be based on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” (run from 2003 to 2022).
The US show with TV star Ellen DeGeneres (65) was one of the best-known formats worldwide, but with the first one "simply didn't find any 'German Ellen' so far," according to the expert.
The broadcaster itself weighs it down: "Both series are still very popular in the first and in the ARD media library," said an ARD spokeswoman on

The fact is that public broadcasting is currently trying to break new ground.
A "Feste" show with Florian Silbereisen (41) will soon have to give way to a Roland Kaiser special.
