The national president of Morena, Mario Delgado, explained to CNN why he will request the National Electoral Institute (INE) to review and, if appropriate, withdraw the national registry of the opposition National Action Party (PAN), to which Felipe belonged Calderón when he became president of Mexico endorsed by the electoral institutions in 2006. Delgado made reference to the guilty verdict of Genaro García Luna for the five charges he faced in a trial in New York, including four for drug trafficking and one for having made statements false to US immigration officials.
García Luna was Secretary of Public Security of the Calderón Government (2006-2012).
Neither the PAN nor its national president, Marko Cortés, have spoken publicly about the accusations of the national leader of Morena.
CNN has attempted to reach out to the PAN National Executive Committee for comment on Delgado's announcement, with no response so far.
Calderón believes that the verdict is being used politically to attack him for his action against crime.
