Today, the Nigerian authorities announced that a number of people were killed in an armed attack in the southeast of the country.
"Gunmen targeted members of three political parties with simultaneous attacks in which several people were killed," the police commissioner of Enugu state, southeast of the country, told Reuters.
Police said one of the dead was a candidate for a Senate seat.
Five policemen were killed last Tuesday in two attacks by separatists in the southeastern state of Anambra.
These attacks coincide with Nigerian voters preparing to vote next Saturday to choose a successor to President Muhammadu Buhari, who ruled the country for two consecutive terms.
