Central Region Tourism: implementing several humanitarian initiatives to help those affected by the earthquake

Homs, SANA- The Central Region Tourism Chamber, in cooperation with the Homs Tourism Directorate and those involved in the tourism sector, implemented several projects

The Central Region Chamber of Tourism, in cooperation with the Homs Tourism Directorate and stakeholders in the tourism sector, implemented several humanitarian initiatives to ease the burdens on those affected by the earthquake in the stricken areas.

Director of the Central Region Tourism Chamber (Homs and Hama), Dr. Muhammad Al-Khadour, explained in an interview with SANA reporter that since the first day of the earthquake disaster, several hotels in Homs and its countryside were emptied to receive the affected people, including Nazareth and Al-Wadi hotels in Al-Hawash area, as they are closer to the stricken areas. All services were provided to dozens of those affected, including accommodation, feeding and clothing free of charge. The hotels of Al-Safir, Basman Al-Jadeed and Al-Walid in Homs and a number of hotels in Hama received a number of families affected by the earthquake from the affected areas and those whose houses were destroyed within the city.

These hotels also voluntarily received a number of Arab and foreign delegations and rescue teams that came to Syria to assist in search and rescue operations since the early days of the earthquake disaster.

Khaddour added: The workers in the tourism sector in Homs and Hama, in cooperation with volunteers from the youth room, provide daily psychological and humanitarian support and everything necessary for those affected in order to raise their morale and alleviate their suffering due to the negative effects of the earthquake. He pointed out that these initiatives were not limited to hotel services, but rather contributed Many restaurants in the cities of Homs and Hama provide meals for those affected, and this initiative has been continuing on a daily basis since the disaster occurred.

According to Khaddour, the international company investing in the Safir Hotel has allocated fifty million Syrian pounds to support those affected by the earthquake, and preparations are currently being made in cooperation with Al-Baath University to hold two awareness seminars, one on psychological support for those affected, and the second on the culture of awareness of earthquakes.

In her turn, the Director of Homs Tourism, Malak Abbas, explained that the services and initiatives provided by Homs Tourism came based on the directives of the Ministry of Tourism that tourism facilities are at the disposal of the governors to receive families affected by the earthquake that struck Syria on the 6th of this month, as the number of these hotels reached eleven. A hotel that received more than 100 affected families in the Wadi Al-Nadara area in Homs governorate.

These establishments also contributed various donations through relief committees in the governorates and tourism chambers.
