The police received reports from three women (ages 44 to 73) yesterday (27th), claiming that they had earlier used job advertisements on social platforms to act as online buyers and click on shopping platforms to earn commissions due to their reputation as merchants.
The three victims repeatedly deposited money into the bank account designated by the other party according to the instructions for shopping on the platform.
Among them, the 44-year-old victim deposited as much as 1.62 million yuan, the 48-year-old victim deposited 410,000 yuan, and the 73-year-old woman deposited 282,000 Hong Kong dollars and 100,000 yuan.
The scammers initially claimed that they would pay commissions, but they lost contact after receiving the money.
The police classified the case as "obtaining property by deception" and handed it over to the Yau Tsim District Criminal Investigation Team for follow-up.
The police pointed out that the job advertisements of scammers generally claim to be "quick money", "high labor", "same day pay" or "work at home"; the age and education requirements for applicants are low or no work experience and resume are required; And the actual position or work content, and only provide instant messaging software or mobile phone number contact methods.
Some scammers even pay commissions after the victim's initial deposit to gain the trust of the victim.
Police appeal to members of the public to call "Anti-Scam 18222" if in doubt.
