The National Cyber Array announced today (Tuesday) that the cyber attack on the Technion about 3 weeks ago was carried out by an attack group known as MuddyWater, which is affiliated with Iran's Ministry of Intelligence and Security.
According to the announcement of the National Cyber Organization, the MuddyWater group has been attributed to many network attacks in the past around the world.
The United States and Britain issued a joint statement about a year ago in which they attributed to the organization a series of attacks on a variety of sectors in Asian, African and North American countries. Also, the cyber system notes that its investigation shows that the group used a malware designed to encrypt operating systems.
In the meantime, the national cyber system distributed identifiers of the attack to organizations so that they could block similar attempts as well as recommendations for defensive methods.
A reminder was added to the formation's announcement that every year during Ramadan, which starts at the end of March this year, cyber attacks are promoted against a variety of targets in Israel with the aim of disrupting their business activities and harming their good name.
"The cyber array is held every year for this period and calls on organizations to strengthen the level of protection," the message reads.
