Three individuals were arrested on Tuesday in the parking lot of a hotel in Tarbes in possession of 45 handguns with 15-ammunition magazines that they were about to deliver.
The weapons seized, designed to fire blank bullets, had been modified to "
allow the use of live ammunition
", reports the Bordeaux prosecutor's office.
Their value is estimated at several tens of thousands of euros by the specialized interregional jurisdiction (JIRS) of Bordeaux, which conducted this investigation, which opened in February in collaboration with the gendarmes of the Toulouse research section.
Suspected of being at the heart of arms trafficking involving Turks, the defendants are the subject of a judicial investigation for acquisition, possession, sale of category A and B weapons and ammunition, but also for association of criminals with a view to preparation for a crime.
They were brought this Friday before the Bordeaux prosecutor's office, which requested their provisional detention.
They face 10 years in prison if the facts are proven.
