Germaringen/B12 - In the early hours of today (March 10), the police received a report that near the B12 junction near Germaringen, a car had left the roadway, broken through a wildlife fence and then fallen down the embankment .
However, when emergency services arrived at the scene, the driver was gone.
Due to the massive damage to and in the vehicle, officials had to assume that the driver had sustained injuries.
A large-scale search operation was then launched, involving several patrols and a police helicopter.
About two hours after the accident, the 21-year-old who caused the accident reported himself to the police by phone.
Shortly thereafter, the officials received the injured person in Untergermaringen and handed him over to the rescue service.
When checking his ability to drive, the officers found the young man had a breath alcohol level of 0.5 per mille, which is why they ordered a blood test.
The totally damaged accident car was recovered by a towing company.
Because a large amount of oily liquids ran out of the vehicle and the scene of the accident had to be illuminated for the rescue, the Obergermaringen volunteer fire brigade was also on site.
There was no disruption to traffic on the B12 during the operations.
